Introducing Character Presence: A New Way to Read a Script

One of the questions I get asked most often when I show Quanten Arc to writers and development executives is some version of: "Can it tell me about the characters?"

The narrative arc tells you a lot. It tells you how a script breathes, where the tension builds, where it releases, and whether the structure holds. But it does not tell you who is carrying the story.

Today we are adding something that does.

Character Presence is a new layer in Quanten Arc that maps which characters appear in each scene across the entire script, ordered by screen time. It sits below the narrative arc and gives you an immediate visual read of how the story is distributed across its cast.

You can see at a glance whether one character is carrying the film or whether the weight is spread. You can see where a character disappears and where they return. You can see the structural shape of a supporting role versus a lead.

Hover over any character and their lane is highlighted across the full arc. Click on their name and you get a synopsis of who they are, their role in the story, and how their arc develops.

Everything is generated from the script itself. This matters for unpublished work, which is where most of the interesting development conversations happen. There is no external source being pulled. The analysis comes from the text.

This is the foundation for something larger. Behind every narrative arc is a map of how characters connect to the story and to each other. Character journeys, relationship mapping, ensemble dynamics across episodes. We are building toward all of that. But we wanted to get this first layer in front of you now because it is already useful.

Character Presence is live on Quanten Arc today, tagged as Beta while we continue to refine it.

If you are already on the platform, it is there waiting for you. If you are not, arc.quanten.co is where to start.
